A number of years ago, Dr. Chal's car was rear-ended by a truck. The resulting whiplash forces tore off the lateral ligaments from his temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ).
In pain and having difficulty with function, Dr. Chal sought out the services of Dr. Mark Piper of St. Petersburg, Florida, recognized as the leading TMJ dentist in the world. During the course of his successful treatment, Dr. Chal became very intrigued by the treatment process and the level of expertise of Dr. Piper and what he could do for his patients, so he decided to try to emulate him. Dr. Piper agreed to mentor him, and thus began a long and mutually respectful relationship. Dr. Piper now recognizes Dr. Chal as one of the few dentists in the country to whom he gives a five-star rating for their expertise and skill in TMJ treatment, and he now refers patients to Dr. Chal. And Dr. Chal, of course, continues to refer patients to Dr. Piper when they need Dr. Piper's unique skills.
Dr. Chal has gone on to become an authority on TMJ treatment in his own right. He has written and lectured on the subject to international audiences of dentists. In 1999 he was elected to membership in the American Equilibration Society, an organization dedicated to the study and treatment of TMJ disorders.
